“It’s difficult to think anything but pleasant thoughts while eating a homegrown tomato.” Lewis Grizzard
There’s something about being able to grow your own produce. We planted our tomatoes in an Earth Box that MA and Gerald gave me a few years ago. Earth Boxes are an incredibly clever self contained gardening structure that permits you to make the most of your gardening space. They are also incredibly expensive, in my opinion. (You can build your self contained planter box in about 20 minutes for a little less than $15. Instructions can be found at http://www.josho.com/gardening.htm. That’s our next project.)
Making a garden with tomatoes and a few peppers is a joint project with Bob. I like the fact that he’s as much in awe at the tomato process as I am.
Morning conversation on the way to the car: “Look! There are more tomatoes! See the blossoms on the pepper plants. When do you think the tomatoes will turn red?”
Evening conversation on the way to the house: “Look! The tomatoes are getting bigger! Why aren’t they getting red? Did you notice that we have a baby pepper?”
Life is good for a Texas gardener.
